Japan got a version of Excitebike that starred Mario

Excitebike: Mario Battle Stadium is easily one of the most obscure Mario titles. Released on the Super Famicom’s Satellaview, an early experiment in online gaming. Featuring only a few of the usual Mario characters, it was only available for download on the service, though it can still be found through less legal means. bowser plush toy

Supercade was the first Super Mario cartoon

Think Super Mario Bros Super Show or an obscure anime film are the first Mario cartoons? Wrong, it was the forgotten Saturday morning treat Supercade, a show that featured cartoons based on arcade hits including Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Junior. Pretty much out of print, you can find some of the episodes on that internet repository known as YouTube. bowser plush toy

Mario was considered for Sega All-Stars Racing

After Sega did Nintendo the favor of lending Sonic to Super Smash Bros Brawl, its only fair that Nintendo would pay Sega back with a Mario cameo. Outside of the Olympic games the two shared, it hasnt happened, though it almost did in the first Sega All-Stars Racing for Wii. As revealed in an interview Mario was considered for the mascot racer, but was ultimately scrapped in an effort to make the Olympic titles more unique. In a strange turn of events, former N64 stars Banjo and Kazooie did end up in the 360 version of the game. bowser plush toy

Mario and Luigi are twins that were born in the Mushroom Kingdom

The Mario cartoons of the 90s may have given the impression that Mario and Luigi are from New York City, but at far as Nintendo is concerned, the brothers were born in the Mushroom Kingdom. As seen at the end of Yoshi’s Island, a stork delivers the newborns to a toadstool house similar to the ones that cover the Princess Peach’s realm. Also, we’d still call Mario the older brother, since he left his bundle first. pokemon plush

1) As long as they’re matching, every costume Mario wears has a matching 2D version when you pop into a side-scrolling area. bowser plush toy

2) When you approach an NPC or item of interest, Mario will turn his head to look at them. Good looking out, Mario.

3) Mario’s outfit can be visually affected in several ways. If he gets lit on fire, they’ll be burned. If you jump in a frozen lake, his clothes will get frosted. And if you roll around the Sand Kingdom, he gets dirty. What a time to be alive.

4) When Mario doesn’t move for a while, he’ll fall asleep. As the plumber naps, a bird will occasionally land on his nose. The bird takes on different forms and colors depending on what world you’re in. Furthermore, Mario wont sleep in certain environments unless he is wearing the appropriate attire, but if you have him sleep on the couch in the comfort of the Odyssey, he’ll start to snooze way quicker — no bird unfortunately. bowser plush toy

5) Hitting a Cactus with your hat gives you a coin, but if you see a group of them, you can hit one of them just right to create a domino effect, which earns you bonus coins.

6) If you bounce on the Odyssey’s globe, you’ll hear a music box-version of the Cascade Falls theme. If you do this after completing the main mission in New Donk City, it’ll switch to Jump Up, Super Star.

7) When throwing Mario’s hat using the Joy-Con, Mario will spin a different way depending on whether you flick the right one or the left one.

8) The front door isn’t the only way to enter the Odyssey. You can enter through the roof hatch, or even the tail pipe.

Lava balls that always kill you are called Podoboos. bowser plush toy

There are classic baddies like Koopa Troopas and Goombas, but do you know Buzzy Beetle, Blooper, and Cheep Cheep? You probably called them by your own names, like squid guy, and those damn fireballs in the castle lava, but every monster has a unique name, and the Super Mario Encyclopedia shares them all. (Now you know what to shout when you toss the controller across the room when you’re taken out by a Podoboo.)

Mario’s adventures go far beyond the Mushroom Kingdom into places like Subcon, Sarasaland, and Isle Defino.

From his adventures in the dreamlike Super Mario Bros. 2 world of Subcon to the lesser-known setting of Sarasaland in Super Mario Land on the GameBoy, Mario has traveled to more places than you might think. Super Mario World takes him to Dinosaur Land, Super Mario Sunshine is in sunny Isle Defino, and he explores the Sprixie Kingdom in Super Mario 3D World. bowser plush toy

Super Mario Bros. had a code for infinite lives all this time

Did you ever beat Super Mario Bros.? Okay, did you ever beat Super Mario Bros. without using the Warp Pipes? Don’t worry, it’s less common than you think. It’s a hard game, made in a time when games were an hour long, but also as hard as a diamond Nokia phone. And of course, there was no saving of any kind — if you lost all your lives, that was it. Game Over, start from the beginning.

Unless you held the A button and pressed Start. Then you would go back to the World you died on. bowser plush toy

I know. I know. Most people have lived their lives without knowing that secret. But it was right there all along, in the Official Nintendo Player’s Guide. bowser plush toy
